The fractional CO2 laser works by poking microscopic holes into the deep layers of the skin, which regenerates collagen growth and evens out pitted acne scars. The fractional CO2 laser treats only a fraction of the skin's surface at a time, while leaving the adjacent skin untouched. Healing usually takes between 3 and 10 days. As a rule, the bigger the treatment area and the deeper the laser, the longer the recovery time. Recovery from ablative laser treatment, for example, may take up to three weeks. While you don’t need to be at home during the entire recovery process, you’ll want to protect your skin from sun rays using sunscreens.
